Harpelestane is a historic recreation society that investigates and re-enacts fighting, arts, crafts and sciences from the dark to middle ages. We differ from most historical re-enactment groups in that we cover the time envelope of the fifth century to the sixteenth century.

28th January 2012 and 29th January 2012

The Shire of Harpelstane once again invites you to enjoy a day of warm company and dancing to relieve the cold, dark, northern winter, with wonderful music provided by the renowned Gaita in the beautiful setting of a 13th century priory church.

The site is a local bus or train out of the centre of Edinburgh in the ancient burgh of South Queensferry. With our weekly Edinburgh dance practice - led by Master Otto and Mistress Caitlin of Gaita fame - on the Friday night and a day of period games in the beautiful - all be it cold – Linlithgow Palace on the Sunday, join us for a weekend of revelry to alleviate the gloom of the long winter days.

Saturday: site opens at 11 am and closes at 10 pm

Sunday: Linlithgow Palace opens at 10:30 am and closes at 4:30  pm

Site fee: £12 including Saturday evening food. If you wish for lunch, please bring your own, there are plenty of shops and cafes in South Queensferry. Payment in advance is not necessary, but gentles who turn up without booking will incur a surcharge and may have to be turned away (due to a limit on the number the site can accommodate).
